StatTrak, Souvenir or a regular CS2 skin?

A regular skin doesn’t have a StatTrak counter or a Souvenir tag, but it can still be valuable. Its price can be affected by factors like the skin’s rarity, wear level, float, pattern, stickers, and overall demand.

The word “normal” here only refers to the item version. It doesn’t mean that the skin is common, cheap, or in bad condition. A normal Factory New version and a normal Battle-Scarred version are the same item version but in different wear conditions.

It’s best to use the regular version as your starting point when you want to see how much the market values the StatTrak or Souvenir feature. However, all other details you compare should match as closely as possible.

What does StatTrak do?

You can recognize a StatTrak version from the item’s name and the visible counter on the weapon. The counter records confirmed kills made with that item. This feature does not improve the weapon, change its damage, or provide any other in-game advantage.

With the StatTrak Swap Tool, you can transfer the counter value between two items of the same type. The tool only moves the stat count, not the skin itself or any of its other properties. A regular skin also cannot be turned into a StatTrak version using only the Swap Tool.

StatTrak is its own variant of an item. Its availability and demand can therefore differ from the regular version. StatTrak can cost more, but the extra price is not fixed. A popular game skin can be much more attractive with a kill counter, while for another item buyers may not be willing to pay as much extra for the feature.

What does Souvenir mean?

A Souvenir links a skin to a Counter-Strike Major tournament. You can recognize it from the Souvenir tag on the item and the tournament stickers attached to it. In the Gold Arabesque example in this article, you can see PGL Stockholm 2021 stickers, but a Souvenir from another Major may look different. A Souvenir is not the same as StatTrak, and it is not meant to count kills.

When talking about old Souvenir items, you’ll come across versions from different eras. The sticker set and the item’s origin depend on the tournament and the Souvenir system in use at the time. That’s why it doesn’t make sense to evaluate all Souvenirs based on a single general rule.

The Souvenir system changed at Cologne 2026

At the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, Valve introduced the Souvenir-O-Matic. With it, players can pick a regular or already Souvenir-quality weapon from their inventory, a played match, and one of the players from that match. The chosen weapon is permanently converted into a Souvenir, and golden team, autograph, and map stickers are added to it.

This change is also important to keep in mind when reading older guides. In the Cologne 2026 system, Souvenir does not mean that a specific skin was originally obtained from a traditional Souvenir package. A regular weapon may have been converted into a Souvenir afterwards.

Before you confirm the conversion, you’ll see a preview of the item. If the weapon already has stickers on it, Valve will notify you that they’ll be removed when creating the Souvenir. The conversion is permanent, so make sure you don’t accidentally use a weapon that has valuable stickers on it.

Is StatTrak or Souvenir always more valuable than a regular item?

Not necessarily. Different versions have their own supply and their own buyers. The StatTrak premium depends on how sought-after that specific item with a kill counter is. For Souvenir skins, the price is influenced not only by the skin itself but also by the tournament, sticker combination, player, teams, map, the item’s rarity, and overall demand for that particular combo.

In Valve’s Cologne 2026 system, the cost of creating a Souvenir is determined by the demand for gold stickers and the rarity of the chosen weapon. However, this is not the same as the item’s later resale price. On the market, buyers decide how much they are willing to pay for that specific combination.

So don’t price it like this: the price of the regular version plus an assumed StatTrak or Souvenir premium. Check completed sales for the same version instead. If you can’t find identical Souvenir combinations, your estimate will inevitably be more uncertain.

Check these before comparing prices

1. Read the item’s full name. Do you see StatTrak or Souvenir at the beginning?
2. Double-check the weapon, finish, and wear rating. Just because something looks the same doesn’t mean it’s the same item.
3. Check the float and pattern if they might matter for that particular skin.
4. For a StatTrak item, check the counter, but primarily compare its price to other StatTrak versions of the same skin.
5. For souvenirs, check the tournament and all the gold stickers. Don’t bundle items from different Majors or with different sticker combinations together.
6. Compare actual completed sales, not just high asking prices.

A simple rule works in most situations: compare regular with regular, StatTrak with StatTrak, and Souvenir with the most similar Souvenir you can find. After that, take into account the wear level, float, pattern, and stickers. This way you avoid comparing items that look almost the same but are priced very differently.
